FOOD delivery company Deliveroo is set to add thousands of new restaurants to its platform.
The new Marketplace+ service will be launched in Australia this month, allowing restaurants which already make deliveries with their own staff members to sign on to the platform and take advantage of the Deliveroo 6500-strong fleet of riders when needed, such as after hours or during busy periods.
It means Deliveroo will double the number of restaurants on the platform to more than 12,000 by the end of the year, and will also be able to expand into new towns and cities across the country in the coming months.
The good news for customers is that there will be thousands of new restaurants — and dishes — to choose from.
Deliveroo Australia country manager Levi Aron said it would also offer customers greater choice when it comes to price ranges, as well as making delivery available for longer periods more often.
Mr Aron told news.com.au Marketplace+ would lead to “a lot more choice across cuisines” as well as the time of day deliveries can be made.
“We want to create an environment where customers have endless selection,” he said.
“With Marketplace+, restaurants who … are really under the pump and don’t have enough drivers can flip on Deliveroo and we can support those restaurants through the ebbs and flows of business on any night.
“They can leverage our own rider network and also maximise their offering.”
Mr Aron said the new initiative would also help small “mum and pop” eateries such as local Indian, Chinese or Thai takeaway joints.
“Deliveroo will work with thousands more restaurants as we grow across Australia,” he said.
“This will benefit customers, who will see more exciting food options, restaurants, whose sales will go up, and riders, who will get more work as more people use our service.
“This service will allow Australian restaurants to fulfil more orders at times of high customer demand and extend the times that they can offer delivery services, meaning more amazing food will be available to more people more often.”
Once the service is launched, customers on the app will be able to see restaurants which already use Deliveroo’s delivery network as well as those that deliver meals themselves.
Marketplace+ has already been rolled out in other countries including the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium.
